An Impreza Sedan with Sparco Terras, a mild rally light treatment and some decent tires...is $6000 less. And the sedan actually looks kinda good?
Also....maybe enough money to make it a little..louder?

Buy a used Impreza.
Add Crosstrek suspension.
???
Profit!

Subframe lift (2inches) is $500 for the parts.... Not that I've checked into it

When I was looking, a lot could be added ( trim package or options) for the $ 2500 su ba ru asks for the 3" the crosstrek lift . I s it 6k CAD for essentially the same trim package?

Out of curiosity, is there a specific reason you want an outback instead of an ascent, Forrester or Crosstrek?
![]() 11/10/2019 at 17:49 |

Yeah, plus I can find Impreza sedana for less than MSRP but not Crosstreks due to demand

Ascent is too big.
Forester and Crosstrek would be too slow, I feel. I drove a Sonic for an old job and remember how awful it was merging. The 2.4 sounds like it solves any issues of being slow.
I like the Forester size, I just wish there was a go fast option.

Yes but...
A Kia Forte with Sparco Terras, a mild rally light treatment and some decent tires...is $???? less.

How much is a lift kit for an Impreza?
![]() 11/10/2019 at 18:01 |

The XT is the go fast option.

As a lover of hatchbacks. For 6k less I’d take the sedan.
Same reasoning behind why I have an e90 sedan and not an e91 wagon. The wagon were and still very much are going for 3-4K more than sedans.

For the Outback, yes. But there's no new Forester XT (yet?).

yeah but AWD?
![]() 11/10/2019 at 18:21 |

Your thinking is very sound... especially if it can be had with the manual.
Subaru have dropped the manual gearbox from all their range here in Oz... except in the WRX and perhaps BRZ
![]() 11/10/2019 at 18:22 |

yeah but $$$$

Unnecessary with good tires and some common sense.

Counterpoint: Kia Forte.
Also, air conditioning

Get the STI short shifter if you can, its really good.

Yeah, but...um... I want a new car
![]() 11/10/2019 at 18:26 |

At least you’re honest.
![]() 11/10/2019 at 18:28 |

Also, to be perfectly honest, I’d feel safer in it for work. The amount of time I spend on the road, I worry about collisions and a Subaru is safer.
Also, snow tires/common sense may help, but sometimes I really need to get down some tricky roads and the AWD maybe what gets me to the claim vs. being stuck in a Forte down a backroad in Whistler.
![]() 11/10/2019 at 18:29 |

That’s also fair.
I’ve used 4wd low in enough situations to know that while snow tires are great and all, in many situations, accept no substitute.
![]() 11/10/2019 at 18:32 |

AWD + Snow tires is probably how I’d spec mine.
My dad, who also is in the industry had an adjuster die while driving to a claim years ago .
We’re not first responders and would never claim to be, but we’re typically on the road when things are the shittiest weather wise too.
![]() 11/10/2019 at 18:35 |

Yeah, do what you have to to stay safe.
The fact that someone would go “we need this evaluated now” in a blizzard is absurd to me.
![]() 11/10/2019 at 18:39 |

Typically, what we do in those scenarios is more emergency than assessment. Floods, sewer backups, fires, truck crashes. We respond to things to protect and minimize property from further damage.
Also, if someone’s house burns during a snowstorm or something and they are homeless, we need to attend to assist.
However, i think if something was REALLY unsafe, I’d refuse to go and keep my job.

Ah, okay, gotcha. Makes sense.

The wheels are too close together.
![]() 11/10/2019 at 18:54 |

As a recovering Subabro, I feel like putting money into an Impreza for aesthetic purposes is a waste. A stock Crosstrek will look better than a tarted up modern Impreza.
![]() 11/10/2019 at 19:04 |

Hmm, true. But, this is actually all usable. As mentioned above, for work I do need lighting and AWD. The only “dress up” would be the wheels.

There’s no Forester XT at all in the US. It was replaced with the “S port” trim which is kind of a sad appearance package.
![]() 11/10/2019 at 19:39 |

Yep. So I could buy a used one (used WRX SUV? What’s the worst that could happen?), or just wait.
![]() 11/10/2019 at 20:52 |

Aren’t they the same engine but 5 spd for the sedan & 6 spd for the Crosstrek?
That makes a difference.
![]() 11/10/2019 at 21:09 |

It makes a slight difference. I kinda prefer 5 speeds

I can confirm, sparco terras with winter tires and rally lights make every Subaru better. I’ve lived that life for the last 5 years and 2 cars with no complaints. In fact, I’m actually disappointed the snow we were supposed to get here in NY has held off a little so I won’t get to test my newest set of snows on the way home tonight

I think I may lease...then buy

I thought about putting those wheels on my Volvo wagon for snows. I ended up finding a good set locally for cheap... kind 0f a similar look

Sparco Terra’s makes almost every car better.
